Bakelite VS Fakelite Internal Grain

The green bracelet below is genuine vintage bakelite. You see a vertical grain on the inside surface of the bangle. This is a feature of marbled vintage bakelite. The reason may have to do with the way the compound was prepared in the tube molds. The marble pattern on the outside does not "match" the pattern on the inside.

The photo below is fakelite.
This graining is noticeably absent in fakelite bangles. With fakelite, the marble patterns on the inside resemble the outside. This clue can be used to spot fakes at online auctions, because it is visible in most photographs if you know to look for it.
